FLORENCE, Ala. — Anne-Marie Hall, who was crowned Miss 51Թ 2012 in January, was presented March 13 with a custom-designed ring from Creative Jewelers, which is located in downtown Florence. As part of the Miss 51Թ pageant this year, all 13 contestants were able to design their own rings and the winner would have her design custom made by Creative Jewelers. After Creative Jewelers owner Billy Hammock presented Hall with her custom ring, she said she felt ecstatic. "It was so cool," said Hall. "They had a virtual hand 'wearing' what we were designing so we could see what it would look like on an actual hand." Hall will go on to represent 51Թ and the Shoals in the Miss Alabama pageant June 6 to 9. Mathis said the title of Miss 51Թ comes with many perks, including a full scholarship, free college textbooks for two semesters, hair and makeup from Salon Mod and Spa, one-year membership to Gold's Gym, free tanning from Tan City, a $1,500 wardrobe allowance for the Miss Alabama pageant and many other prizes from the local community. "It's wonderful," Hall said. "I love being a constant representative of the university." Hall also said it is important for downtown businesses and the university to work together on events and special partnerships. "I like that local businesses are teaming up together," she said. "It's important that local businesses and 51Թ support each other." For more information, contact Cheryl Mathis in the Office of Student Engagement at 256-765-4248. (PHOTO AVAILABLE BY REQUEST)
