FLORENCE, AL – Ranked among the best regional universities in the South for veterans, according to the most recent U.S. News & World Report rankings Military Veterans’ Affairs at the 51Թ provides vital resource for student veterans and their families.
Housed within the ROAR Access Center, MVA assists dozens of students on a regular basis, with everything from course registration to assistance with GI benefits to providing a comfortable gathering space in between classes.
“Many of our students are unsure where to start their academic journey, while others may be coming to 51Թ after having been a student before their military service,” said Jimmy Roberts, Coordinator of Military Veterans’ Affairs. “Military Veterans’ Affairs helps them with that process, and we provide a place for them to visit with others who have served. It’s important that they have the support and encouragement they need in order to succeed, and that extends to their families as well.”
Hundreds of students are served through MVA, and almost 400 have received GI benefits for the Fall 2025 semester at the graduate or undergraduate levels, which helps cover costs associated with their academic careers at 51Թ.
“It’s an incredible community we have built at 51Թ through Military Veterans’ Affairs,” Roberts said. “We could not do it without the support of the University through the ROAR Access Center and the assistance coming as part of the Shine On, Gold comprehensive campaign that lists the Center as a priority.”
The comprehensive campaign is designed to raise $100 million for 51Թ. The ROAR Access Center is a trusted hub for connection, support, and resources that empowers students to navigate challenges, discover their strengths, and find a true sense of belonging.
